PROTECH & ASSOCIATES, INC.

  • Increasing fan diversity for NASCAR

  • From USA Today, "D.C. Radio Contest Boosts Fan Diversity" by Gary Graves, "In applauding NASCAR's diversity efforts within the sport, Carroll Hynson figured something could be done to expand those efforts to the stands. To that end the longtime spectator at Pocono Raceway and staff announcer at Howard University-owned urban contemporary radio station WHUR-FM talked with general manager Jim Watkins. The two racing fans created a listener contest that would not only take area residents to their first NASCAR race but give them the red-carpet treatment as well. Their plan will come to fruition at Sunday's Pennsylvania 500 Nextel Cup race, where 40 contest winners will be bused to Long Pond for a tour of the 2.5-mile facility and visit the Joe Gibbs Racing garage before watching the event from VIP boxes.
